AML & KYC Policy
Effective: July 2026 · Oremi Technologies
1. Our Commitment
Oremi Technologies ("Oremi", "we") is committed to preventing money laundering, terrorist financing, and other financial crime. This Anti-Money-Laundering (AML) and Know-Your-Customer (KYC) Policy explains how we apply these controls across our services, in line with applicable laws and regulations in the jurisdictions we operate in, including Nigeria and South Africa.
2. Self-Custody vs. Regulated Services
The crypto wallet is fully self-custodial: you alone hold your seed recovery phrase and private keys — Oremi never holds, stores in recoverable form, or has access to your keys, and cannot move your crypto on your behalf. Because these are peer-to-peer, on-chain transactions you sign yourself, they are not custodial.
However, our fiat services — Naira/Rand deposits, crypto-to-fiat swaps, and bank payouts (processed through licensed partners such as Korapay and Flutterwave) — involve regulated money movement. These services are subject to AML/CFT obligations, transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, and, where required, identity verification.
3. Customer Due Diligence (KYC)
We operate a risk-based approach. Depending on your activity, transaction volumes, and applicable law, we may be required to request identity information, such as:
- Full legal name, date of birth, and residential address;
- A government-issued identity document and/or a verified phone number or email;
- Source-of-funds information for higher-value or higher-risk activity.
We may limit, suspend, or decline fiat deposits, swaps, or payouts until any required verification is completed.
4. Transaction Monitoring & Sanctions Screening
We and our regulated payment partners monitor activity for patterns consistent with money laundering, fraud, or sanctions evasion, and screen users and counterparties against applicable sanctions and watchlists. We may investigate, delay, or block transactions that trigger these controls.
5. Prohibited Activity
You may not use Oremi to launder money; to finance terrorism or sanctioned parties; to process proceeds of crime, fraud, or scams; or for any purpose that is illegal in your jurisdiction. Accounts found engaging in prohibited activity may be blocked and reported.
6. Reporting & Recordkeeping
Where legally required, we (and our licensed partners) maintain records and file reports — including suspicious-activity reports — with the relevant financial-intelligence and regulatory authorities. We may share information with these authorities and partners to the extent the law requires.
7. Account Restrictions
To meet our obligations, we may freeze, restrict, or close accounts, and withhold fiat payouts, where we reasonably suspect fraud or a breach of this policy or the law. Your self-custodied crypto always remains recoverable by you using your seed phrase.
